0 <br /> 4. Sharps containers will be tightly lidded before disposal. <br /> 5. Sharps containers will be placed in red medical waste bags. <br /> 6. Red medical waste bags are to be kept securely tied so as to <br /> prevent leakage during-handling or transport. I <br /> 7. Double bagging is not required unless the outside of the red medical <br /> waste bag is contaminated with blood or other body substances or <br /> there is excessive weight due to fluid filled containers. <br /> 8. Red medical waste bags are to be placed in the closest medical <br /> waste container. 'Medital waste bags are not to be stored on the <br /> floor. I <br /> 9. Housekeeping will routinely pick up medical waste. Notify <br /> Housekeeping Services if an addit.iona!collection is required. <br /> 10. Housekeeping will transport medical waste in a Biohazardous waste <br /> transportation cart to a separate biohazardous waste bin located on <br /> the hospital grounds. <br /> 11. The biohazardous bin will be contained in a secured storage area so <br /> as to deny access to unauthorized persons. This storage area shall <br /> be marked with warning signs on, or adjacent to, exterior of doors, <br /> gates or lids. Signs shall be in English and Spanish and shall read: <br /> "CAUTION - BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE AREA - <br /> UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS KEEP OUT". Signs shall be legible from <br /> a distance of at least 25 feet. The storage area shall provide <br /> protection from animals, vermin and natural elements. <br /> 12. Housekeeping staff manually loading or unloading medical waste will <br /> wear protective clothing such as gloves, face shield and fluid <br /> resistant gown or jumpsuit. <br /> 1.3. Medical waste generated from St. Dominic's Hospital may. not be <br /> stored for more than seven days. <br /> 14. Medical waste generated from St. Dominic's Hospital will be Picked <br /> up by and dispose of by B.F.I., contracted company at least three <br /> times per week. <br /> Page 3 of 4 <br />
