0 <br />J <br />co <br />GENERAL INFECTION CONTROL POLICY STATEMENTS (Continued) <br />b. The Medical Director will supervise and provide consul- <br />tation on all aspects of the Infection Control program. <br />C. The Director of Nursing Services and the Infection Control <br />Nurse ensure proper procedure is followed for reporting <br />and analyzing of infections. The Director of Nursing <br />Services ensures isolation practices are implemented <br />effectively. The Director of Nursing Services assists the <br />Medical Director in overseeing the employee health program <br />and compiles reports on employee infections for the <br />Infection Control Committee. <br />d. Charge nurses ensure all nursing staff under their <br />supervision report conditions which appear infectious <br />(among staff or residents). Charge nurses will ensure <br />staff follows procedures for resident safety, as outlined <br />in this manual. When necessary, charge nurses will <br />institute isolation procedures. <br />e. The attending physician reports infections, orders <br />treatments, cultures for bacterial identification and <br />tests for antibiotic sensitivity. <br />f. The pharmacist dispenses all drugs to the facility and <br />provides the nursing staff with pertinent information <br />regarding the sensitivity and incompatibility of drugs <br />used to treat or control infections. <br />g. Housekeeping, Dietary, Laundry and Maintenance <br />responsibilities are listed in later sections of this <br />manual. <br />h. The inservice director will provide education programs <br />designed to teach employees the nature of the infectious <br />process, recognition and reporting of infection and/or <br />infectious disease processes, measures which will protect <br />the residents and themselves, aseptic techniques and <br />isolation procedures. <br />i. The specific responsibilities of the Infection Control <br />Nurse are listed later in this manual. <br />j. When needed, the Infection Control Consultant will provide <br />information on treatment, control and prevention of the <br />infectious process. <br />
