Vienna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center <br /> MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN <br /> PHARMACEUTICAL WASTE <br /> Pharmaceutical waste must be segregated and packaged into appropriate containers, <br /> separated from other biohazard waste and sharps waste. Containers for pharmaceutical waste <br /> are to be placed in a pharmaceutical sharps type containers. They are considered full when they <br /> reach the manufacturer's "fill" line. Lids on the filled pharmaceutical waste containers must be <br /> closed and sealed to prevent loss of contents. They are typically blue and white in color and/or <br /> labeled "Pharmaceutical, For Incineration Only". When these containers are full and ready for <br /> disposal, it will be removed from the interim storage area and will be taken to the designated <br /> accumulation area. Pharmaceutical waste can not be placed into the regulated medical waste <br /> red bag or into the regulated medical waste sharps container. Pharmaceutical waste containers <br /> will be placed inside a clear bag and into a secondary container. Outside of the pharmaceutical <br /> secondary container states "For Incineration Only". <br />
