The locked cabinet in the Director of Nursing
(DON) Office has a biohazard symbol as this is an interim area for
pharmaceutical waste.
B) Photos were taken in these areas as evidence of correction.
NOTES:
1. The two sharps container on medication carts that were filled past the "fill" line
were snapped closed, taped and sealed and sent to the designated accumulation
area for pick up.
2. Effective 5/5/2011, the practice of using red biohazardous waste bags to store
soiled linens in isolation rooms as well as transporting soiled linens or soiled mop
heads to the laundry was discontinued. A white barrel lined with blue plastic bag
and "melt away bag" is initiated for soiled linens and a clear plastic bag is used
for soiled mop heads. A staff in-service was conducted on the same day to
inform and implement the new changes regarding soiled linen and mop heads
handling.
3. Amendment was done of Vienna's Medical Waste Management Plan stating
that pharmaceutical waste when full and ready for disposal will be removed from
interim storage area and will be taken to the designated accumulation area. (See
attached update of the Medical Waste Management Plan).
