INFECTIOUS WASTE <br /> PURPOSE <br /> To dispose of infectious waste effectively, to prevent <br /> the spread of pathogens. <br /> EQUIPMENT <br /> Items to be treated as infectious waste include: <br /> 1. Used ileostomy bags and equipment. <br /> 2. Used catheter bags and tubing. <br /> 3. Any item contaminated by body fluids. <br /> 4. Used treatment items such as: <br /> 4X4,s <br /> bandages <br /> telfa pads <br /> betadine swabs <br /> PROCEDURE <br /> Place infectious waste materials in red plastic bags marked <br /> INFECTIOUS WASTE, or with approved infectious waste symbol on the <br /> bag. Place in a second red bag with approved infectious waste <br /> identification and place in the incinerator. <br /> Treatment cart waste will be placed in a red plastic bag within <br /> a red plastic bag with the approved markings as materials are disposed <br /> after use. The double red bags will then be incinerated at the time of <br /> completion of the treatments. Use red bags with approved strength and <br /> identification markings, only. <br />
