Describe the medical waste handling procedures utilized by and applicable to your facility, including, <br /> but not limited to the following: <br /> a Onsite location and method for segregation, containment,packaging, labeling and collection, <br /> including pharmaceutical waste: <br /> Waste Management <br /> Onsite location: Vienna Nursing&Rehabilitation Center <br /> 800 South Ham Lane Lodi,CA95242 <br /> (1) Medical waste is contained separately from other waste at the point of origin. <br /> (2) Medical waste is placed in a red biohazard bag,which meets the requirements of Federal,State <br /> and Local Regulatory Agencies. A biohazard bag is a disposable red film bag used to contain <br /> medical waste. It is impervious to moisture and has strength sufficient to preclude ripping, <br /> tearing or bursting under normal conditions of usage and handling of the waste-filled bag. <br /> The biohazard film bag is marked and certified by the manufacturer as having passed the tests <br /> prescribed for tear resistance of 480 grams in both parallel and perpendicular planes in the <br /> American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM)D192 and(ASTM)D 1709 standard test for <br /> impact resistance of 165 grams(drop dart test). Documentation from the manufacturer of <br /> compliance with these minimum construction standards will be kept on file in the Staff <br /> Development Office. <br /> (3) Municipal solid wastes are not to be disposed of in medical waste containment devices. <br /> Contaminated waste from isolation patients will be placed in red biohazard bags labeled with <br /> word"Biohazard Waste". Any medical Nvaste such as soaked/dripping bloody dressings, <br /> blood tubing/bags/hemovacs/pleuravacs/intact glass or plastic bottles with body fluids, <br /> all disposables soaked or dripping with blood or OPIM, will be placed in the red biohazard <br /> bags labeled with words"Biohazard Waste"or the word Biohazard with international <br /> biohazard symbol, <br /> (4) Sharps.waste. All sharps waste is placed into a sharps container which is rigid puncture-resistant <br /> container used in patient care or research activities meeting the standards of,and receiving <br /> approval from,the United States Food and Drug Administration as a medical device used for <br /> the collection of discarded medical needles or other sharps. Sharps waste,including sharps and <br /> pharmaceutical waste is contained in a United States Food and Drug Administration(USFDA) <br /> approved sharps container that meets USFDA labeling. Container is labeled"SHARPS WASTE" <br /> or"BIOHAZARD"with the international biohazard symbol, Full sharps containers are collected <br /> regularly and replaced with empty containers by Licensed Nursing Staff. <br /> (5) Pharmaceutical Waste. Pharmaceutical waste is segregated and packaged into appropriate <br /> containers, separated from other biohazardous waste and sharp waste. The container is labeled <br /> with the biohazardouswaste symbol and the words"HIGH BEAT"or"INCINERATION ONLY", <br /> or with another label approved by the department,on the lid and sides,so as to be visible from any <br /> lateral direction. <br />
