Hands must be washed as soon as practical after an exposure to blood. <br /> 2. As all residents' blood and body fluids are considered potentially infectious, all <br /> exposures to bloodibody fluids must be reported to the Infection Control Coordinator(or <br /> designee)or supervisor. <br /> 3. Do not pick up broken glass by hand.Use forceps,tongs,or brush and dustpan. <br /> 4. Report spills of blood or body fluids to the Infection Control Coordinator(or designee) <br /> so that an investigation into the cause of the spill can be initiated and the corrective <br /> measures identified to prevent similar spills from occurring. <br /> Equipment and The following equipment and supplies will be necessary when performing this procedure. <br /> Supplies <br /> 1. Nonsterile gloves(exam or heavy-duty); <br /> 2. Bleach(EPA registered sodium hypochlorite 5.25%); <br /> 3. Spray bottle; <br /> 4. Water; , <br /> 5. Cloth or paper towels; s <br /> 6. Plastic bag- i~t ct <br /> 7. Forceps,tongs, or brush and dustpan(as applicable if picking up broken glass); <br /> g. Personal protective equipment(e.g.,gowns,gloves,mask,etc.,as needed); and <br /> 9. Other as appropriate or as may be needed. <br /> Infection Control i., Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and-water at the following intervals; <br /> Protocol and Safety a. Before the procedure; <br /> b. Before resuming the procedure after an interruption (i.e., assisting another resident, <br /> toileting,answering the phone,etc.); <br /> c. Anytime they become soiled with blood or body fluids; <br /> d. When changing/removing gloves or any personal protective equipment; <br /> e. Whenever in doubt;and <br /> f. Upon completion of your task or procedure. <br /> 2. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, gown, mask, eyewear, <br /> etc., as necessary)to prevent exposure to spills or splashes of blood or other potentially <br /> infectious materials. <br /> 3. Maintain clean technique and isolation precautions as indicated. <br /> 4.
