The red bag attached to <br /> the treatment cart shall be closed at all times. <br /> B. Utility Room: <br /> For infectious or contaminated waste a locked and <br /> properly labeled cupboard will be designated in <br /> each utility room. Infectious or contaminated <br /> waste shall be removed from these collection areas <br /> daily by the janitor or designee. After each <br /> removal, the janitor or designee will disinfect <br /> all containers and cupboards with a germicidal <br /> solution. Every precaution will be taken- to in- <br /> sure bags are not broken open. <br /> C. Locked Storage Area: <br /> A storage area for infectious waste will be <br /> located outside the facility. The storage area <br /> -will be locked and properly posted with a promi- <br /> nent warning sign stating "infectious waste <br /> storage area - unauthorized persons keep . out". <br /> Infectious or contaminated waste removed directly <br /> from a container in a patient room shall be <br /> carried directly from the patient, by the house- <br /> keeping staff, via the nearest exit, directly 'to <br /> the infectious waste storage area outside the <br /> facility. Once inside the storage area, double <br /> bagged infectious or contaminated waste shall be <br /> placed inside infectious waste disposal boxes <br /> provided by the Sanitary City Disposal Co. These <br /> boxes shall be removed by the Sanitary City Dis- <br /> posal Co. at least every 7 days. <br /> D. Care of Contaminated Waste Containers: <br /> 1. Waste Containers shall have tight fitting, <br /> leak proof lids. <br /> 2. Waste containers shall be labeled with large <br /> letters - "infectious waste". <br /> 3. Containers shall be emptied by the approved <br /> disposal method. <br /> 4. Containers used to collect infectious waste <br /> shall be cleaned in the can wash area each <br /> week by the janitor or designee. <br /> S. Infectious waste storage area shall be <br /> cleaned by the maintenance person or designee <br /> each week or each time infectious waste is <br /> picked up for disposal by Sanitary City Dis- <br /> posal Co. <br />
