Section Prevention & Control Program <br />" Medical Waste Management <br />ar.,A •sr.'• ':dl�, i� ffJ .f1•.'is <br />Waste Minimization '� ' ..�4��`rA' V <br />Y <br />t 6r. <br />The purpose of this program is to provide guidance on the segregation of medical w0at <br />J� � <br />from other waste streams and establish proper handling and disposal procedures in <br />accordance with the Medical Waste Management Act, Division 20, Chapter 6,1,14ealth <br />and Safety Code. Care Centers are classified as Small Quantity Generators producing less <br />than 200 pounds per month of medical waste. There are no medical wastes produced <br />which contain or are comprised of recognizable anatomical remains. <br />1. Policy <br />• It is the policy of the company and the Care Centers to segregate medical waste <br />at the point of generation and handle the waste properly using appropriate <br />personal protective equipment and good work practices. <br />• All employees Fuad all contract employees shall adhere to the medical waste <br />plan. <br />. Violations of the plan or non -adherence with policy will result in disciplinary <br />action, up to and including termination of employment and or services. <br />. Appropriate personal protective equipment shall be domed whem exposure to <br />blood and body fluids is possible. <br />• When available needleless systems will be utilized. Sa'lety shields will be <br />engaged immediately following use. Sharps will never be recapped. <br />•Sharps containers will never be filed more than 2/3 full. <br />Biohazard Bag means a disposable red bag which is impervious to moisture and has <br />sufficient strength to preclude ripping, tearing, or bursting under normal conditions of <br />usage and handling of the waste filled bag. A Biohazard bag shall be constructed of <br />material of sufficient thickness strength to pass the 165 -gram dropped dart impact <br />resistant test and certified by the manufacturer. The bag should never be filled more than <br />2/3 full and secured carefully to prevent leakage and spilling during storage or transport. <br />Biohazardous Waste means laboratory waste including, but not limited to: <br />Medical and pathological human or animal specimen cultures. <br />Cultures and stocks of infectious agents. <br />Waste from the production of bacteria, viruses or the use of spores, discarded live <br />and attenuated vaccines, culture dishes and contaminated devices used for above. <br />Infection prevention & Control Prom <br />Murch 2009 <br />80/Z0 3!DVd 6ViS N3AVHW-13 6TSZT9660Z T9:60 TTOZ/LZ/L0 <br />
