Medical waste may be infectious. <br />humans <br />SharpsWaste - Any device having acute rigid corners or edges, or projections capable <br />of cutting or piercing, including: <br />14ypodermic needles, syringes, blades and needles, lancets <br />Broken glass items, pipettes and vials contaminated with other medical waste. <br />3. Containment And Storage Of Medical Waste <br />A. To containerize or store medical waste, employees shall do the following: <br />o Medical waste shall be contained separately from other waste at the point <br />of origin. <br />o Biohaeardous Waste shall be contained in a red biohazard bag <br />conspicuously labeled with the words "Biohazardous Waste" or with the <br />international biohazard symbol and the word 'Bio ". <br />o Sharps containers must be rigid; puncture and leak resistant when sealed, <br />cannot be reopened without great difficulty, and properly labeled. Sharps <br />containers may be placed in the red biohazard bags. <br />o All bagged medical waste shall not be removed from the bags. <br />o All red biohazard bags shall be identified with the name of the college. <br />B. To containerho hiobazardous waste in a biohazard hag, employees shall do <br />the following: <br />o The begs shall be tied to prevent leakage or expulsion of contents during <br />all future storage, handling, or transport. <br />o Bio us red bags most be placed for storage, handling, or transport <br />in a rigid or disposable container. The containers must: be: <br />& Leak resistant and fitted with tight covers. <br />b. Sanitary and in good repair. <br />c. Can be any color. <br />d.
