z, <br /> 4.0 PROCEDURE <br /> All employees determined to be at risk for occupational exposure to blood and or body fluids are <br /> expected to observe the following work practices. <br /> 1. Wash hands immediately or as soon as feasible after removal of gloves or other <br /> personal protective equipment. <br /> 2. Wash hands and any other skin with soap and water, or flush mucous membranes with <br /> water immediately or as soon as feasible following contact of such body areas with <br /> blood or other potentially infectious materials. <br /> 3. Do not bend, recap, or remove contaminated needles and other contaminated <br /> sharps. <br /> 4. Do not wear contact lenses in work areas where there is a reasonable likelihood of <br /> occupational exposure (unless goggles are worn). <br /> 5. Do not keep food and drink in refrigerators, freezers, shelves, cabinets, or on <br /> countertops or bench tops where blood or other potentially infectious materials are <br /> present. <br /> 6. Perform all procedures involving blood or other potentially infectious materials in such <br /> a manner as to minimize splashing, spraying, spattering, and generation of droplets of <br /> these substances. <br /> 7. Place specimens of blood or other potentially infectious materials in a container that <br /> prevents leakage during collection, handling, processing, storage, transport, or <br /> shipping. <br /> 8. Label or color-code and close containers-used for storage, transport, or shipping. <br /> 9. Place a primary container within a second container when outside contamination of the <br /> primary container occurs. <br /> 10. Place a primary container within a second container when the specimen could <br /> puncture the primary container. <br /> 11. Examine prior to servicing or shipping equipment that may become contaminated with <br /> blood or other potentially infectious material. <br /> 12.
