ROUTINE <br /> AND REGULAR PICK UP AND TRANSFER OF WASTE OCCURS. <br /> CONTAMINATED WASTE IS ALWAYS PLACED IN THE LINED WASTE CONTAINER IN <br /> THE PATIENT ' S ROOM - NEVER ON THE FLOOR OR OTHER SURFACES. <br /> PROCEDURE: DISPOSAL/ <br /> HANDLING OF CONTAMINATE CATEGORY: DEPT. The Maintenance Assistant places the red Hazardous Infectious <br /> Waste containers in container on the east wing, hazardous waste <br /> I` closet, with a RED bag- lining the container. <br /> 2. Nursing personnel place hazardous, infectious waste in the small <br /> .mss red waste container in the patient isolation room. <br /> 3 . Nursing personnel bag all infectious waste in the patient <br /> room. The top of the bag is knotted at the end of each shift or <br /> as needed. <br /> 4. At the end of the shift or as needed, nursing personnel transfer <br /> the contents of the wastebaskets in the isolation room to <br /> the large Hazardous Infectious Waste barrel obtained from <br /> the outside storage area. (Nursing personnel who are in the clean <br /> area open the Hazardous Infectious Waste container for personnel <br /> transferring waste from isolation room) . <br /> 5. Before removing the Hazardous Waste from the Soiled Utility Room, <br /> the assigned maintenance personnel securely knot the RED bag liner. <br /> 6. The knotted bag is left in the container with lid tightly in <br /> place, then the maintenance personnel places the container and <br /> contents in the hazardous waste closets . <br /> 7.
