0
AMERICAN
LABORATORY STERILIZER
SQUARE TYPE WITH CYCLOMATIC CONTROL —F-
I . WEEKLY BEFORE HEATING STERILIZER. Remove plug screen from
bottom of chamber and clean lint and sediment from pores of
strainer. The interior of the sterilizer should be cleaned
every week (Monday morning) before it is heated. Wash the
surfaces with a mild detergent (use Bon-Ami) and rinse with
water. A sponge and brush should be used. Caution-do not
use steel wool. The tray in the bottom of the chamber and
and any other wire mesh or perforated metal shelves used in
the sterilizer should be cleaned in like manner. Replace
chart in controller before starting the days work. Set
controller indicator to temperature required.
II . WEEKLY INSPECTION OF CHAMBER DISCHARGE SYSTEM. Frequent
inspection is advisable, to keep this line clean and opera-
ting correctly. At intervals of one week (on Monday morning
before heating autoclave) clean out the chamber discharge system
by removing plug screen and inserting a funnel into the opening
and then pouring into the line one to two liters of hot (not
boiling) trisodium phosphate solution, containing about 28 grams
of the trisodium phosphate per liter (1,000 ml) of hot water.
If plug screen on inside of chamber is kept clear by daily
cleaning, there will be little if any clogging. If dirt gets
into line, it will clog air eliminator trap which must be
taken apart for cleaning. Thermometer will indicate any
interruption to free drainage. If line is completely clogged
temperature will not rise at all. On rare occasions , element
in eliminator trap will fatigue, remain open. Indication will
be a definite lag in temperature rise. The only remedy is
to secure a new trap element or an entirely new trap.
REFERENCE: Maintenance instructions and operating instructions
for American Sterilizers (square type with cyclomatic control) .
Page 34751 and Page No. 34752 .
