.op.. _ • .. • <br />PROCEDURE FOR SPILL CONTAINMENT INVOLVING <br />ACID FAST BACTERIA CULTURES <br />PLAN OF ACTION: <br />1. Microbiologist will exit room immediately closing the door and will notify a <br />supervisor of the spill. <br />2. Supervisor will then shut off air handling system to the building. <br />3. Supervisor will pull fire alarm and exit building. <br />4. Supervisor will notify designated Environmental Health personnel of the spill. <br />a) Supervisor will meet Environmental Health personnel at the front <br />entrance to the building. <br />b) Supervisor will show E.H. personnel the exact location <br />(map) of the spill area. <br />c) Supervisor and E.H. personnel will mutually agree upon the method to <br />be used to clean up the spill. <br />d) A spill kit for clean up and decontamination will be kept <br />in laboratory office #35 to be used in this situation. <br />5. Following spill clean-up, 1 % phenol will be made available for <br />decontamination of the E.H. person's suit. <br />6. Employees will be monitored medically for adverse medical consequences. <br />
