SAINZ <br />Health Care Manager <br />From : Deuel Vocational Institution, Tracy, CA 95378 <br />Subject : RESPONSE TO K. FOLEY, REHS, DENTAL SECTION <br />Department of Corrections <br />Complaintfl, Sec 11825(c), Sharps stored beyond 7 days and ready for disposal. <br />Our Comment - The Senior MTA or his designee will be responsible for the final <br />disposal of all sharps on a weekly basis. Dental departments responsibility is to <br />deliver the full containers to the Senior MTA for removal via contract. There is a <br />RDA responsible for each clinic and that clinic's weekly inspection. Enclosed are 1. <br />DISPOSAL PROCEDURES FOR THE DENTAL DEPARTMENT, 2. OP 157. <br />Complaint#2, Sec 118310 Sharps in an unsecured area at the RC clinic. <br />Our Comment - Sharp containers in all three dental clinics are under lock and key. <br />The dental staff was given extra training Aug. 22, 1997. To ensure that the RC is <br />locked at all times. Enclosed are the class materials and safety test for AUG. 22, <br />1997 and the before mentioned DISPOSAL PROCEDURES. <br />Complaint#3, Sec 118280 Biohazard waste containers (RC & OSD) not labeled <br />Our Comment - DR Paulsen immediately labeled the top and side of the biohazard <br />containers of those noted as not having proper labels. <br />Complaint#4 Sec 118295 Training for waste disposal and disinfection <br />Our Comment - Two classes were given on these topics. The first class on Aug. 26, <br />1997covered Evacuation traps - location and cleaning and new MSDS with a test <br />following. The second class on Sep 18, 1997 covered: 1. Policies, 2. waste <br />generation, handling, disposal, documentation, 3. secured containers, 4. storage <br />times, 5. biohazard containers labeled, 6. med waste container decontamination, and <br />7. Biohazard Spills.
