r�� <br />17� <br />DISPOSAL PROCEDURES DENTAL DEPARTMENT DVI <br />MEDICAL & BIOLOGICAL WASTE <br />1. In general, the dental department will follow O.P. 157 Medical Waste Disposal Plan. The following <br />procedures will be followed by the dental department: <br />A. All Biohazard Materials will be placed in the appropriate leak proof and biohazard labeled containers <br />lined with red biohazard bags. Smaller unit containers will be emptied into the larger biohazard container <br />located in the Mainline Dental Clinic HOT ROOM. This container will be emptied at least once per week <br />or when full. (See OP 157 Sec VI. A -C). <br />B. All used sharps (defined as used needles, scalpels, suture needles, carpules, and broken instruments) <br />shall be disposed of in a secured red sharp container. These containers are located at: Mainline Hot room; <br />OSD LAB; and RC Cabinet. These containers are to be secured at all times by locking the door or cabinet. <br />There should only be one container/ clinic opened at a time. When the sharps containers are full, these <br />containers will be given to Senior MTA or designee for final disposal. <br />C. Dental used fixer will be collected and delivered to the Radiology department, for placement in their <br />fixer collect barrel. <br />D. Used Lead Foil from Dental X Ray film is to be collected and stored in a container at each clinic. The <br />Mainline Clinic's container is located at the Mainline Dark room. The OSD container is located in the OSD <br />lab room. The RC container is located in the RC dark room. When the RC and OSD small containers are <br />full, they will be sent to the larger mainline clinic's container. Once the large Mainline Clinic's container <br />is full, the lead foil is sent via UPS to the KODAK's current refinery in the mailer obtained from KODAK. <br />E. Amalgam waste is placed in the proper container. These containers are located in the Mainline Dark <br />room and OSD lab room. When the OSD container is full, the contents will be sent to the larger container <br />in the mainline dental clinic. When the Mainline container is full, the RDA will send the contents to <br />Garfield Refinery for disposal, via shipping container provided by Garfield Refinery and sent by Certified <br />US Mail. <br />F.
