AMERICAN MEDICAL RESPONSE MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN <br /> 14.2 All procedures will be conducted in a manner that will minimize <br /> splashing, spraying, splattering and generation of droplets of blood <br /> or other potentially infectious materials. Methods that will be <br /> employed at American Medical Response to accomplish this are the <br /> use of Personal Protective Equipment, proper disposal and proper <br /> placement of contaminated articles into approved Infectious bags or <br /> sharps containers. <br /> 15.0 RESPONSIBILITY: <br /> 15.1 All Vehicle Service Technicians are responsible for ensuring that <br /> the equipment that has become contaminated with blood or other <br /> potentially infectious materials shall be examined prior to servicing <br /> and shall be decontaminated as necessary. <br /> 15.2 San Joaquin County Operations has the responsibility to ensure <br /> that all Personal Protective Equipment used by the employee is <br /> provided without cost to employee. Personal Protective <br /> Equipment will be chosen based on anticipated exposure to blood <br /> or other potentially infectious materials. The protective equipment <br /> will be considered appropriate only if it does not permit blood or <br /> other potentially infectious materials to pass through or reach the <br /> employee's clothing, skin, eyes, mouth, or other mucous <br /> membranes under normal conditions of use and for the duration of <br /> time, which the protective equipment will be used. Additional PPE <br /> will be located in the stores area. <br /> Examples of blood or OPIM's are vomiting, blood, open wounds or <br /> cuts, known venereal diseased individual, or any situation where <br /> you are likely to be splashed or come into contact with body fluids. <br /> 16.0 INFORMATION AND TRAI : <br /> 16.1 SRM Department shall ensure that training is provided to the <br /> employees at the time of initial assignment to tasks where <br /> occupational exposure to Infectious Wastes may occur, and that it <br /> shall be repeated within twelve months of the previous training. <br /> Training shall be provided at no cost to the employee and at a <br /> reasonable time and place. Training shall be tailored to the <br /> education and language level of the employee. The training will be <br /> interactive and cover the following elements: <br /> 7 <br />
