AMERICAN MEDICAL RESPONSE MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN <br /> The on-duty Supervisor will complete a"Supervisor's Investigation <br /> Report," fax to SRM and forward a copy to the Operations Supervisor <br /> for follow-up. <br /> All Non-sharp and expo �s P will be placed into red Infectious <br /> Waste bags, and then placed into the hard Grey Infectious Waste <br /> barrels provided by Stericycle. These barrels are rigid and are labeled <br /> "Biohazard." All bags will be tied or taped at the top and will not be <br /> "Overflowing." All infectious waste linen will be placed into Yellow <br /> Infectious Waste Linen Bags or the Infectious Waste Linen bin for <br /> either cleaning or disposal. All contaminated uniforms will be placed <br /> into a"melt—away bag", and then placed into a yellow infectious <br /> waste bag. These will be sent for disposal as Infectious Wastes <br /> All used/contaminated sharps will be placed in a"Sharps Container." <br /> All sharps containers will be fill so as not to exceed the storage <br /> capacity of the container. Once sharp containers have been filled to the <br /> line, they will be taped and placed in the Infectious Waste Storage <br /> barrel for disposal. <br /> All medical waste shall be stored above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. <br /> All medical waste spills will be sprayed with a disinfectant spray. The <br /> Ambulance and other hard surfaces shall be cleaned with a <br /> Disinfection spray cleaner. <br /> All spilled sharps will be handled picked-up by trained personnel and only <br /> handled with 8 to 12 inch tongs. Any spilled sharps will be <br /> immediately placed into an empty sharps container and disposed of <br /> properly. Any materials that result form broken sharps i.e. glass or <br /> plastic will be sprayed with a disinfectant before being picked-up. I f a <br /> "dust pan" is used, spilled materials will be sprayed with a disinfectant <br /> and kept wet as to minimize any dust being generated. The dust-pan <br /> must be disposed of as Infectious Waste. <br /> 14.OWORK AREA RESTRICTIONS: <br /> 14.1 In work areas where there is a reasonable likelihood of exposure to <br /> blood or other potentially infectious materials, employees are not to eat, <br /> drink, apply cosmetics or lip balm, smoke or handle contact lens. Food and <br /> beverages will not to be kept in areas where blood or other potentially <br /> infectious materials are present or stored. <br /> 6 <br />
