• <br /> LODI OUTPATIENT SURGICAL CENTER & ENDOSCOPY CENTER OF LODI <br /> Title: Disposal of Regulated Medical Wastes POLICY: EOC 306 <br /> Page 2 of 2 <br /> State: EFFECTIVE: 10/02/2013 <br /> CMS: 416.51(a) REVIEWED: 4/13/2016 <br /> TJC: EC.004.01.01 EP15, EC.01.01.01 EPS, IC.02.01.01 EP 6, IC.02.01.01.01 EP1 <br /> AAAHC: 8.M <br /> POLICY: <br /> Regulated Medical Wastes shall be handled, transported, and disposed of in such a manner <br /> that minimizes the risk of transmission of disease to center personnel, patients, visitors, and <br /> others from the time of generation of the wastes to final disposal. <br /> PROCEDURE: <br /> 1. All disposable sharps that can cause injury (scalpel blades, lancets, and needles) are to <br /> be placed in puncture resistant containers without being bent, broken, or re-capped by <br /> hand. <br /> 2. Regulated Medical Wastes shall be placed in red biohazard impervious bags at the <br /> point of generation. <br /> 3. Filled sharps containers are to be placed in the Regulated Medical Waste container. <br /> 4. When Regulated Medical Waste boxes are filled, they are sealed and properly stored in <br /> the biohazardous closet which is locked and separate from other waste. <br /> 5. The Regulated Medical Waste boxes will be removed weekly for incineration and <br /> disposal. <br /> 6. Receipts are to be maintained by the Safety Officer (or designee: Materials Manager) <br /> that Regulated Medical Waste was collected and properly disposed of by contracted <br /> vendor according to contact specifications <br /> a. The designated medical waste facility is: <br /> i. Stericycle, Inc. (autoclave) <br /> 1812 Starr Dr. <br /> Yuba City, CA 95993 <br /> (530) 755-0595 <br /> b. Monthly estimated waste for: <br /> i. Lodi Outpatient Surgical Center: 22 pounds <br /> ii. Endoscopy Center of Lodi: 13 pounds <br /> 7. Patient excretions and secretions (urine, sputum, feces, etc.) may be carefully poured <br /> down the bathroom commode or a hopper leading to the sewage system, using <br /> universal precautions and safeguards to prevent splashing. <br />
