�I <br />IDENTIFICATION AND HANDLING OF CONTAMINATED LINEN AND <br />OTHER CONTAMINATED WASTE RECEIVED AT THE LAUNDRY <br />1.1. Policy <br />It is the policy of Sodexo Laundry Stockton to insure all Associates are able to <br />identify and properly handle regulated medical waste received at the laundry that <br />may include but is not limited to: <br />Regulated Medical Waste <br />Biohazardous Waste <br />Pathology Waste <br />Sharps <br />Chemotherapy Waste <br />Pharmaceutical Waste <br />Hazardous Pharmaceutical Waste <br />Radioactive Waste <br />Container Type/Color/Symbol <br />Red Bags <br />Red Bags <br />Sharps Containers, red/clear <br />Yellow Containers <br />Blue and White Containers <br />R.C.R.A. (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) <br />Radioactive emblem. <br />Please see the attached Proper Medical Waste Disposal Chart for a better <br />identification of the appropriate RMW containers. <br />1.2. General <br />It is the responsibility of all medical facilities served by SLS to ensure that no <br />regulated medical waste is transported to the laundry or mixed into soiled linen. <br />In the unlikely event that any regulated medical waste (RMW) should be found in <br />the soiled linen it is to be identified, recorded as to the medical facility the RMW <br />the originated from and properly segregated and stored for retrieval by a party <br />licensed to handle and transport RMC. SLS currently contracts with Stericycle to <br />remove RMW from the laundry. It will be the practice of SLS to contact the <br />medical facility sending RMW to the laundry and advise them of the items <br />received, the date and time and advise them of their responsibility to properly <br />handle the RMW. <br />1.3. Procedures <br />Personnel working in the Soiled Sort and Wash area are to wear the appropriate <br />PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for Standard Precautions, which consists <br />minimally of a protective gown and gloves. Any Associate identifying any of the <br />above noted RMW products are to identify the product, note the medical facility <br />that the product came from and advise their immediate Supervisor to help with the <br />handling of the RMW. <br />Employee Identification of RMW I of 3 <br />
