Field Operations Policy and Procedures (ffjo <br /> 9.2 Spill Control and Clean-Up Requirements <br /> Policy. Company representatives must perform activities involving chemicals, blood or other <br /> potentially infectious materials in a manner that eliminates or minimizes the likelihood of a spill <br /> or splash and must follow strict guidelines in cleaning any spills that do occur. <br /> Procedure. <br /> 1. Use a "Spill Kit" consisting of an adequate supply of linens, paper towels, a mop, mop <br /> bucket and broom to clean-up spills. <br /> a. Ensure the mop, broom and mop bucket are marked "Preparation Room Use Only" <br /> and each displays a biohazard label. <br /> b. During and after a spill clean-up, use a Caution Wet Floor standing sign (AFS <br /> Ordering; item number S5R6112-77) in the area until the floor is dry. <br /> 2. To control and prevent body fluid spills : <br /> a. Seal and check all incisions to prevent leakage before dressing, cosmetizing and <br /> casketing. <br /> b. Position remains slowly and deliberately while performing preparation services to <br /> eliminate or minimize expulsion of body fluids. <br /> c. Use and seal a viscera bag when preparing autopsied decedents prior to placement in <br /> the thoracic/abdominal cavity to prevent leakage (unless directed otherwise by <br /> government regulation). <br /> d. Place an acrylic glass cover over the embalming sink to prevent splashing. <br /> e. Position the embalming drain pipe and aspirator discharge below the water surface in <br /> the embalming sink to prevent splashing. <br /> 3. To clean-up body fluid spills (preparation area, refrigeration unit, etc.): <br /> a. Utilize universal precautions (see Section IV, Definitions in HSE3 Bloodborne <br /> Pathogens)when cleaning up a body fluid spill. <br /> b. Clean up a body fluid spill immediately with a paper or cloth towel, and place the <br /> used towel(s) in a biohazard waste container. If the cloth towel is intended for re-use, <br /> place it in a biohazard laundry container to await laundry/disinfection. <br /> c. Disinfect the area of the spill with a 1:10 bleach/water solution, or other equally <br /> effective disinfection method. <br /> 4.
