Field Operations Policy and Procedures Lffjo <br />4. Provide a sharps disposal canister for the safe disposal of non -reusable sharp instruments. <br />a. Place or install the sharps disposal canister as close as possible to the work area. <br />b. Ensure the sharps disposal canister is puncture resistant, closable and leak proof. <br />c. Ensure the sharps disposal canister carries a standard biohazardous label. <br />d. Discard contaminated sharps immediately or as soon as possible after use. <br />e. Keep containers for contaminated sharps upright throughout use and replace them as <br />needed to prevent overfilling. <br />f. When moving containers of contaminated sharps from the area of use, close the <br />containers immediately before removal to prevent spilling or protrusion of contents <br />during handling, storage or transport. <br />g. If leakage occurs or is suspected, place the container in a secondary container. <br />i. Ensure the secondary container is closable and is constructed to prevent leakage <br />during handling, storage or transport. <br />ii. Ensure the secondary container is labeled as biohazardous. <br />9.5 Equipment Inspection Requirements <br />Policy. Embalming machines, eyewash stations and emergency showers must be inspected <br />monthly and cleaned on a regular basis. <br />Procedure. <br />Embalming Machine: <br />1. Prior to each use, visually inspect the embalming machine for any leaks to ensure proper <br />operation. <br />2. After each use: <br />a. Empty all fluid, rinse the inside and clean the exterior of the machine thoroughly with <br />the appropriate disinfecting solution (e.g. Dodge Sterilant or Cavicide). <br />b. Flush aspirators and associated tubing and trocars with clean water, and disinfect <br />them after each use with the appropriate disinfecting solution (e.g. Dodge Sterilant or <br />Cavicide. <br />3.
