Field Operations Policy and Procedures �Fe <br />Mortuary Services <br />Mortuary services are those procedures that are performed to prepare a decedent for visual <br />identification, visitation, funeral services or final disposition. Such procedures include—but are <br />not limited to—bathing, hairdressing, embalming, dressing and casketing. <br />Neoprene <br />Synthetic rubber used for making gloves and other items to provide resistance to liquids or <br />insulation against electricity. <br />Next -of -Kin <br />The closest relative of a deceased person; may be the Authorized Representative (see above). <br />Non-consecutive <br />An interrupted order (e.g. 1, 3, 8, 11) of numbers or items. <br />Non porous shelving <br />Stainless steel, fiberglass or plastic shelving at a crematory or PCC that is used to store decedents. <br />Non -valuable personal effects <br />Any items belonging to a decedent that have no exceptional monetary worth, such as clothing or <br />shoes. <br />Opacity <br />When something cannot be penetrated by light. <br />Overflow <br />To rise above capacity. <br />Pacemaker <br />A mechanical device implanted in a person to stimulate the heart or reestablish a normal heartbeat <br />in an arrested heart. <br />Personal Care Center <br />A centralized facility that provides embalming, dressing, casketing and cosmetizing services for <br />two or more funeral homes within a one hour drive time radius of the PCC. <br />Personal Care Center Dispatcher <br />Company personnel or Company approved contractors assigned with the responsibility for <br />dispatching vehicles and personnel for transfers; driving coaches/limos for services; flower <br />delivery, decedent transport, personal effects transfer; delivering death certificates, or <br />receiving/unloading casket inventory. <br />Personal Effects <br />Personal items left with the decedent at the place of death or brought into the crematory or PCC by <br />the next-of-kin for placement with the decedent. <br />Version 2.1 Page 63 of 70 Revised: 07/10/2015 <br />Document Owner: Operations Support © 2015 SCI Funeral & Cemetery Purchasing Cooperative, Inc. <br />
