Needles shall never be recapped,purposely bent or broken by hand,removed from <br /> disposable syringes, or otherwise manipulated by hand. <br /> 3. After use, disposable needles and syringes, scalpel blades, and other sharp disposable <br /> items shall be placed in a puncture resistant container for disposal. <br /> d. Cleaning,Disinfecting and Sterilizing <br /> 1. All non-disposable instruments that come in contact with blood, body fluids or mucous <br /> membranes shall be autoclaved when possible, after being thoroughly cleaned with <br /> germicidal soap. <br /> 2. Metal speculums shall be autoclaved after being thoroughly cleaned with germicidal <br /> soap. <br /> 3. Non-autoclavable instruments shall be disinfected with germicide registered as"hospital <br /> disinfectant" after thorough cleaning with a germicidal soap. <br /> 4. Re-usable diaphragms/fitting rings shall be washed in germicidal soap and water, rinsed <br /> 40 dried and completely immersed in 2%gluteraldehyde solution for at least 10 minutes. <br /> 5. Used microscope slides are disposed of in a puncture proof container with a tight lid. <br /> When the container is filled, it is autoclaved before being disposed of in the trash. <br /> 6.'
