Medical Equipment <br /> I. Quality Control <br /> A) Autoclave: <br /> 1) The autoclave shall be tested monthly with biological indicators(Bacillus <br /> - <br /> Stearothermophilis)placed in the center of a load. A record of the results of <br /> these tests shall be maintained and kept on file for at least three(3)years. The <br /> lab slip shall have Bacillus-Stearothermophilis written on it. <br /> 2) A record of the temperatures and the length of time autoclaved for each load <br /> will be maintained on the log, and kept on file for three (3)years. <br /> 3) The load size shall be no larger the 6" x 6" x 12". <br /> 4) Medi-Puls packaging shall be used for autoclaving instruments which need to <br /> sterilized. The word steam appears when the package is properly autoclaved. <br /> 5) Infectious waste containers,when autoclaved, shall have autoclave tape attached <br /> in order to verify sterility. <br /> 6) The autoclave shall be calibrated annually. <br /> B) Incubator: <br /> 1) The incubator temperature shall be checked weekly and recorded. The <br /> temperature must be kept between 35 <br /> C) Emergency Equipment: <br /> 1) Emergency kits are to be checked monthly for expiration dates and need for re- <br /> supply. <br /> 2) The Registered Nurse(RN) in each clinic is responsible for the monthly review <br /> of the emergency medications, equipment and maintaining a checklist posted on <br /> top of the emergency kit. <br /> a) All medications shall be inspected for expiration dates and usability. <br /> b) The equipment is checked monthly for usability. <br /> Medical Equip.Quality Control -N.I- <br /> Revised April 1999 <br />
