DOE has prepared this Environmental <br /> Impact Statement (EIS) to evaluate the impacts of continued operation of the Lawrence <br /> Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and Sandia National Laboratories, Livermore (SNL, <br /> �. Livermore). The EIS was prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act <br /> (NEPA). UC has prepared this Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to evaluate the impacts of <br /> its continued management of LLNL. The EIR was prepared in compliance with the California <br /> Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). A copy of the Notice of Completion, which was filed with <br /> the State Clearinghouse on March 11 , 1992, is enclosed. <br /> The Draft EIS/EIR analyzes the potential environmental impacts of the proposed action: <br /> continued operation, including near-term (within 5 to 10 years) proposed projects of LLNL and <br /> SNL, Livermore. Additionally, this document analyzes: a no action alternative involving <br /> continuing operations at 1992 funding levels without further growth; a modification of <br /> operations or facilities; a shutdown and decommissioning alternative; and University of <br /> California discontinuing management of LLNL after the current contract expires. <br /> UC and the DOE invite you or your representative to comment on the enclosed Draft EIS/EIR. <br /> To help the public in providing comments on the document, information about the facilities <br /> and copies of the Draft EIS/EIR have been placed in nine information depositories, listed in <br /> Appendix M of the document. <br /> Itr.bl P.O.
