KLEINFELDER
5 SITE CHARACTEM171CS
Elements of the closure design are dependent on climatology, geology, hydrology and
hydrogeology. Information used in preparation of the closure plan is presented in this chapter.
5.1 CLIMATOLOGY
The data resented in this section was obtained from the California meet of Water
P Depart
Resources (DWR). The climatology of the site is based on the data collected from three
climatological stations, the Stockton Airport, Stockton Fire Station, and the Stockton Mowry
Bridge. At the Stockton Airport precipitation data was collected from 1949 to 1980. The
Stockton Fire Station precipitation data was collected from 1868 to 1980. Evaporation data
was collected at the Stockton Mowry Bridge from 1956 through 1963. Inclusion of the
Stockton Fire Station as a climatological station is due to limited data available from the
Stockton Airport. Approximate locations of these stations are shown on Plate 1-1.
5.1.1 Precipitation
5.1.1.1 Annual Precipitation
The mean annual precipitation for the site, as indicated from available data, is approximately
14 inches. Tables 5-1 and 5-2 summarize the annual precipitation data obtained from Stockton
Airport and the Stockton Fire Station, respectively. The maximum annual precipitation at
Stockton Airport is 23.75 inches, recorded in 1973 and the minimum annual precipitation is
2.75 inches, recorded in 1968. The Stockton Fire Station has a maximum annual precipitation
of 25.21 inches, recorded in 1958, and the minimum annual precipitation is 6.06 inches,
recorded in 1913.
5.1.1.2 Monthly Precipitation
Mean monthly precipitation at the Stockton Airport varies from approximately 2.75 inches in
January to 0.05 inches recorded in July. The mean monthly precipitation from the Stockton
Fire Station varies from 2.95 inches in January to 0.02 inches recorded in July and August.
CR14-92-12 Page 13 of 39 24-220109-1709
Copyright 1992 Kteinfetder, Inc.
