KLEINFELDER
SW-1,-2, and -3 on May 20, 1991, when flows were present. The samples taken on May 20,
1991 (SW-1,-2, and -3), and the sample for SW-4 which were taken on May 12, 1991, were
submitted for the analysis.
Table 5-11 shows the results of the analysis. Asbestos was detected in samples from
Y P all
sampling locations. Levels for SW-2 and SW-3, which are located on-site near the property
lines at locations up and down-stream of the past operations, were 205.68 and 246.82 total
million fibers per liter. The result for SW-1, taken upstream of the property on the east side
of Airport Way, was 164.55 total million fibers per liter. The result for SW-4, which was
taken on the West side of McKinley Avenue near the location where flows from the stream
enter French Camp Slough, was 21.94 total million fibers per liter.
5.4.3 Discussion of Surface Water Monitoring Results
No evidence was found of volatile organics, metals or unusual levels of general minerals in
surface water at the downgradient monitoring points. However, high asbestos concentrations
were reported in surface water samples both upstream and downstream of the landfills and
surface impoundments. It is likely that the asbestos was deposited in the ditch by wind.
Potential sources of asbestos are the surface impoundments and surface deposits of asbestos
due to past activities on the site.
CR14-92-12 Page 22 of 39 24-220109-1709
Copyright 1992 Kteinfelder, Inc.
