The samples <br /> were temporarily stored in an ice chest refrigerated to a temperature of approximately 4° C-and <br /> delivered under chain of custody protocol to Argon Analytical, Inc. (DHS cert. 42359). Mr. Frank <br /> Girardi, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) was present to witness the <br /> excavation and sampling. Field notes including a site sketch showing the sample locations are <br /> included in attachment A. <br /> LABORATORY ANALYSIS <br /> To characterize the nature of the waste, the composited samples were analyzed for the following <br /> constituents: <br /> 1. Total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel(TPHd)and gasoline(TPI.-Tg)using EPA Method 80158; <br /> 2. Volatile organic compounds(VOCs)by EPA 826013; <br /> 3. Semivolatile organic compounds(SVOCs)by EPA 8270C; <br /> 4. Polychlorinated biphynols(PCBs)by EPA R080A <br /> 5. CAM 17 metals by EPA 60 T 0B(mercury by EPA 7471). <br /> Analytical results are summarized in Table 1, and a copy of the laboratory reports including chain of <br /> custody documentation,,are included in Attachment B. <br /> ISCUSSION OF RESULTS <br /> Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons <br /> No TPHd or TPHg were detected in the composite sample. <br /> Volatile Organic Compounds <br /> No VOCs were detected in the composite sample. <br /> Semivolatile Organic Compounds <br /> Only two analytes from the SVOCs analysis were detected in the composite sample. Bi,s(2- <br /> ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) was detected at 2.6 millgrams per kilogram (mg/kg) and Di-n-octyl <br /> phthalate was detected at 1.9 mg/kg, which are well below their respective preliminary remedial <br /> goals(PROs)of 35 mg/kg and 2,400 mg/kg,established by the U.S. EPA. <br /> Polychlorinated biphynols <br /> Only two analytes from the PCBs analysis were detected in the composite sample. Aroclor 1242 was <br /> detected at 0.076 mg/kg and Aroclor 1260 was detected at 0.038 mg/kg, which are well below the <br /> PRG of 0.22 for the most hazardous PCBs. <br /> Metals <br /> Various metals were detected in the composited samples, most of which were well below their <br /> respective P.RGs and hazardous waste designation levels.However, lead was detected at 200 mg/kg, <br /> 11GZA_FS\VOL,.I\DA1'AIGROUNDZG\Pnlomino\soilpilcresult2_wp.doc <br />
