k" KLEINFELDER
2 SCOPE OF WORK
2.1 TRENCHING OPERATIONS AND SAMPLING TECHNIQUES
2.1.1 Field Preparation
Before performing work in the field, environmental staff will review the scope of work, prepare a
health and safety plan, coordinate the work to be done with their supervisor, assemble the
necessary sample equipment containers, and check, calibrate and clean equipment to be used in
the field. Underground Service Alert (USA) will also be contacted prior to field work. The
property owners will also provide information on the known or suspected location of utilities in
the area of the investigation.
2.1.2 Trenching Operations
Trenching Procedures
Kleinfelder proposes to explore subsurface conditions at the site by g excavatio trenches with an
excavator operated by a Kleinfelder subcontractor. Field personnel will have 40-hour
Occupational Safety and Health Administration Hazardous Waste Operator Certification, per
Title 8 California Code of Regulations Section 5192.
The depths of exploration will vary from present ground surface to the depth of debris, assumed
to be approximately 20 feet below grade based on previous borings. A geologist or
environmental professional from Kleinfelder will maintain a log of the soils and debris
encountered and obtain samples for visual examination. Grab samples will be obtained from the
excavator bucket or the spoil pile and will be placed in zip-lock bags for possible later use should
some question arise relative to waste characterization. Upon completion of trenching and
sampling, if potential hazardous materials are not observed, the trenches will be backfilled with
the excavated soil debris. In the event potentially hazardous materials are identified visually or
by other means within the exploratory trenches, the trenching operation will be immediately
terminated and the parties with interest in the Martin Metal property will be contacted to discuss
the situation and develop a course of action
23-4824150-Ao0/CR96S052 Page 3 of 7 June 7, 1996
.
