LIC IES P. N
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor • Stockton, CA 95202 9`FOR
209/468-3420
May 15,2001
Mecca Equipment Corp.
Attn: Don Bowman
500 S. Airport Way Suite 205
Stockton, CA 95206
RE: Scrap metal buried at Stockton Metropolitan Airport
This letter is to document a follow-up inspection that was conducted on May 7, 2001.
The inspection was to determine if solid waste that was previously buried by your
company had been removed from the site as stated in your cleanup plan submitted on
May 23, 2000. The inspection revealed that the waste was still onsite. There was a large
pile of wood waste co-mingled with soil. During a previous conversation you stated that
the waste has been separated from the soil and that all that remained was to remove the
waste from the site.
The Environmental Health Division (EHD) requires that wood waste be removed from
the soil and the wood be taken to an approved recycling center or landfill. The EHD
directs you to remove all the metal and wood waste that remains at this site by June 18,
2001. Failure to properly resolve this issue will result in further legal action by this
Department. Re-inspections are chargeable inspections. Re-inspections are charged at
an $87.00/hour rate. There will be a charge for the May 7, 2001 re-inspection. A Re-
inspection will be conducted on June 19, 2001 to determine compliance.
If you have any questions in regards to this issue you can contact me at (209)468-0332
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H.
Heath Officer
Robert Mcclellon. Lead Senior, REHS
Environmental Health Division
Cc: David Irey, Deputy District Attorney
Mike Brooks, Airport Chief of Operations
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
