t 103
SOLID WASTE FACILITY PERMIT APPLICATION - AUSTIN ROAD LANDFILL SITE
1•
Item #1. The Austin Road landfill is a Class "II-2 site operated
1.
by the separate trench method; a distance of 28 feet from center
to center is maintained between trenches . A daily cover of six
inches is applied at the end of each working day thus forming
cells. The final cover is three feet in depth. Excavation of
new trench is kept as close to the working face as possible to
facilitate application of a daily cover as soon as possible after
compaction. Excavation is performed with a hydraulic excavator.
' All required cover material is available on the site.. -
Cell width is the same as the trench spacing, 28 feet, and
runs the full width of the landfill site, varying from 1 ,000
to 2, 600 feet. Compaction is accomplished with a compactor work-
ing four to six hours daily. A typical cycle is difficult to
describe because the same operator operates the push tractor and
the compactor, with the operator of the excavator helping with
both the push tractor and the compactor when he has time avail-
able. Compaction to 1,000 pounds per cubic foot is the minimum
accepted in place density.
a.
A. The normal hours of operation are between 6 : 30 a.m. and
4 : 30 p.m. each day except Saturday`,and Sunday. The hours of
operation on Saturday are 6 : !5D a.m. to 1 : 30 p.m. The site is
closed Sundays , Christmas `Day and NeV-.Y'ear' s Day.
B There are
-- - at the
landfill site. 7
