S. Summary <br /> landfill to be used for facilities,equipment areas,and a soil borrow area for landfill operations, <br /> 85.6 acres southeast of the current landfill proposed for fill,and 6.5 acres northeast of the current <br /> landfill to be used as a floodplain area. Once the horizontal expansion is completed and the <br /> existing landfill properly closed,the vertical expansion would occur atop of the existing landfill <br /> to a height of 150 feet mean sea level(MSL). The landfill is currently permitted to a height of 90 <br /> feet MSL. <br /> Figure S.1 shows the location of the project site. The nearest city is Stockton,*which is seven <br /> miles away to the northwest. The existing landfill is within the jurisdiction of the City of <br /> Stockton and has not yet been zoned. All of the proposed project expansion areas are within the <br /> County of San Joaquin and zoned agricultural with the provision for solid waste facilities. The <br /> land to the north and the land to the northeast are currently vacant. A residence is located at the <br /> southeast corner of the southeast parcel. The surrounding land uses consist of agriculture, <br /> juvenile and women's prisons, and the Forward,Inc.Landfill. The Stockton Metropolitan <br /> Airport is within 10,000 feet of the City of Stockton Landfill. <br /> C. PROTECT OBJECTIVES <br /> The City of Stockton Department of Public Works has indicated that the project objectives <br /> include the following items: <br /> • to serve long-term disposal needs in the project area; <br /> • to comply with environmental objectives,including containment of waste, separation of <br /> waste from groundwater,minimization of air emissions,protection of public views, and <br /> appropriate management of storm water and leachate;and <br /> • to meet the regulatory standards of all relevant permitting agencies. <br /> D. PROTECT CHARACTERISTIC'S <br /> There are no proposed changes to the current waste stream for the expanded landfill. As is the <br /> current policy, no sewage sludge,asbestos,tires,abandoned vehicles,large dead animals,liquid <br /> wastes,hazardous wastes,white goods or inert solids would be accepted. Infectious wastes <br /> would continue to be accepted subject to special waste handling practices. <br /> S.2 <br />
