Austin Road Landfsll E V
ion Project EIR Comments and Respons
lones to C
Relalifo is Public Utilities Commission it 5A&U_gId Carriers Division. mbar
16. 1 better
Response to Comment 1: The proposed project is estimated to add 17 new inbound and 17 new
outbound peak hour trips on the existing roadway system. At the Austin Road/Mariposa Road
intersection, the project is expected to add 33 new trips in the northbound left-turn lane and 33 trips in the
southbound right turn lane. None of these trips would cross the Mariposa at-grade rail crossing in order
to serve the project. Hence, the project would not result in any impacts to the Mariposa Road at-grade
railroad crossing.
Since the intersection of Austin Road/Mariposa Road is projected to operate at a level of service F in the
AM peak hour under the background condition, any addition of the project traffic to that intersection
affects the level of service at the intersection, and, therefore, a fair-share contribution to mitigation at that
intersection has been identified in the EIR.
Response to Comment 2: Burlington Northern Santa Fe will be constructing a grade separation at the
Austin Road/Mariposa Road intersection and relocating that intersection to the west of its existing
location. This grade separation would eliminate any project impacts with respect to rail traffic.
Response to Comment 3: Comment noted. The proposed project does not include any new railroad
crossings.
40
