CDMCamp Dresser&McKee Inc.
Mr.Jeff Hackett
September 27,1999
Page 2
Title 27 specifies a multiple-depth probe system with a shallow probe installed 5 to 10 feet
below ground surface,an intermediate probe of half the depth of waste, and a deep probe at
the depth of waste. The bottom of waste at the Austin Road Landfill is approximately 20 feet
mean sea level(MSL). The approximate ground surface elevations of the five-proposed
probes south of the French Camp Slough,SGP-3B,7A,8A,9A,and 10B are located between
30 and 39 feet MSL. The target depth of these probes will be approximately 10- 19 feet
below ground surface with the screen intervals as indicated in the table above. This probe
construction is consistent with Title 27 in situating the zone to be monitored at the depth of
fill. Groundwater elevations in the vicinity of the probes are deep enough such that there is
no danger that groundwater will enter the probes.
Upon completion of the field work, the Austin Road Landfill perimeter monitoring well
network will consist of 12 soil-gas probes. The 12 locations address the Title 27 requirement
establishing a maximum probe spacing of approximately 1,000 feet on center.
Regulatory Permitting, Notification, and Utility Clearance
In accordance with California Assembly Bill No. 73,CDM will notify Underground Service
Alert a minimum of 48 hours prior to the initiation of intrusive activities on the Site. Gas
probe locations will be clearly marked with a wooden stake or painted X. CDM will obtain
permits from the San Joaquin Count Environmental Health Division(SJCEHD) for the
installation of the gas probes prior to beginning site activities. In addition,CDM will notify
SJCEHD a minimum of 48 hours prior to the initiation of probe installation.
Reporting
Well logs will be developed for each soil-gas probe and shall be logged by a geologist. An
as-built description of the well construction will be provided, which indicates probe
material, depth, filter pack type, and size and interval of perforations. A site plan will be
developed with the location of all the probes in the perimeter monitoring well network.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or wish to discuss this work
plan further.
Very truly yours,
CAMP DRESSER&McKEE INC.
W
N'-f 1 L
Wayne Pickus,P.E.
Project Manager
cc: Mike Miller,City of Stockton
W99/2500/028.doc
