City of Stockton Draft Amended Report of Waste Discharge (AROWD)
Austin Road Landfill Work Plan
■ The depth to water will be measured using the water level indicator device. Water levels will be
measured to an accuracy of 0.01 feet and will be recorded in the field logbook. The probe will be
decontaminated before and after each use. Depth to water will be recorded as measured from
the top of the well casing.
■ The volume of water in casing storage,or within the packed-off interval,is calculated using the
conversion factor of 0.16 gallons per foot of water in well casing storage for a nominal,2-inch
diameter PVC pipe (Schedule 40).
■ A minimum of 3 casing volumes of water will be purged, with exceptions made for wells with
low recharge rates. Low recharge wells are defined as wells that cannot recharge 80%of the
original volume within 8 hours. Low recharge wells will not be drawn down more than 50%of
the original volume during purging.
■ Temperature,pH,conductivity, and turbidity will be monitored during the purging to ensure
that they have stabilized within 10%before sampling. These water quality measurements will
be made 10 times at even increments during the purging of three well casing volumes. An
Horiba U-10 Water Quality Checker will be used to make these water quality measurements.
■ Information concerning well purging shall be recorded in the logbook. The disposal of purge
water is discussed in Section 2.2.1.6.
■ Upon filling of a VOA vial,a check for air bubbles in the VOA vial will be made by turning it
upside-down and tapping the side of the bottle. If bubbles are present, the sample will be
discarded and a new VOA vial will be filled.
■ QA samples will be prepared in accordance with the prescribed measures. All samples will be
logged in the field logbook. A groundwater sampling form will be prepared and the form will be
referenced in the field logbook. Recorded information will include the well number, sample
identifier,analyses performed,date,time,and collectors' signatures.
■ Samples will be labeled and packed for shipment, following procedures described in Section
2.2.5. Chain-of-custody records and any other necessary shipping documentation will be
prepared.
2.2.1.6 Waste Disposal
Drill cuttings will be generated during the drilling of borings. These cuttings will be transported to
the ARL for disposal. Development and sampling purge water generated from the new monitoring
wells will be pumped into a vacuum truck and transported to the on-site Groundwater Treatment
Facility for treatment and discharge.
2.2.2 Sampling Equipment and Cleaning
All reusable field equipment used to collect, handle,or measure samples will be decontaminated
before coming into contact with any sample. The decontamination procedure will match the degree
of contamination on the sampling tool. For example, steam cleaning will be necessary to remove dirt
from auger flights. Brushes and soap will be required to remove dirt from split-barrel core samplers.
Sampling equipment that has come into contact with oil and grease will have to be cleaned with
organic solvent to remove the oily material.
W:\REPORTS\STOCKTON\AUSnN\WORKPLAN.DOC Page 9
