Mr. Tom Horton Project 0939-004.08
February 14, 1995
Page 3
Surface water samples were collected upstream and downstream of the waste management
facility at monitoring points S-1 and S-2 after the first storm of the rainy season which
produced significant flow and quarterly thereafter when water is present. Samples were
analyzed for the following quarterly parameters (specified in WDR Order No. 94-258):
Total suspended solids
Total dissolved solids
Chlorides
Sulfates
Nitrate-nitrogen
The next run-off producing rainfall will be sampled and analyzed for the following 5-year
constituents of concern as required by the WDRs:
Total organic carbon
Carbonate
Bicarbonate
Total alkalinity
Chemical oxygen demand
Dissolved oxygen
Oil and grease
21 metals
Cyanide
Sulfide
GROUNDWATER
Quarterly Monitoring Parameters and Field Parameters. A review of the
quarterly monitoring parameters shows that no VOCs were detected in the groundwater
samples collected. Concentrations of TDS, chloride, nitrate-nitrogen, and sulfate were
detected at concentrations within the established concentration limits. A review of the
field parameter monitoring results shows no significant changes when comparing this
quarter's data to historical data.
Five-year Constituents of Concern. Constituents of concern monitoring was
conducted this quarter to satisfy the sites monitoring and reporting program requirements.
No VOCs, semivolatile organic compounds, polychlorinated biphenyls, or chlorinated
herbicides were detected in the groundwater samples. Trace concentrations of Aldrin,
Gamma-BHC (Lindane) and Endosulfan II were detected in samples from monitoring
wells MW-1 and MW-2. Aldrin was detected in samples from background monitoring
well MW-1, while Gamma-BHC (Lindane) and Endosulfan H were detected in samples
from well MW-2. The concentration limit for these compounds as established by WDR
Order No. 94-258 is set at the method detection limit.
