LEACHATE CONTROL MEASURES
A dendritic Leachate Collection and Removal System will be
installed. The system will be constructed as each module is
excavated. It will consist of 2 ' of clay (1. 0 x 10-7 cm/sec
permeability) overlain by a High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
liner, a geonet, leachate collection pipes, and a leachate
collection sump.
6. COST
Although the leachate collection and removal system
will be installed before closure, additional work may
be required, such as installation of additional
collection sumps.
Additional sumps, wells or other measures = $5,000
DRAINAGE SYSTEM INSTALLATION
The drainage system will consist of perimeter ditching and
natural finished drainage contours on the landfill surface.
Since drainage features will be constructed as the site is
developed, it is estimated that to provide closure drainage at
any time in the landfill life would require a modified drainage
system design.
Since the total drain length for the entire site is approximately
24, 000 lineal feet, it is estimated that the length of drainage
system to close any one module and provide adequate drainage
would approximate no more than 10, 000 lineal feet of perimeter
drainage ditching. It is estimated that a $1, 500 a day
construction crew could grade about 500 feet of ditch per day. A
crew would probably consist of a motorgrader, Caterpillar
tractor, scraper, 2 operators, 1 laborer, and 1 grade setter.
7. COST
a. Design = $ 5, 000
b. Field Engineering = $ 2, 000
C. Construction:
($1, 500 X 10, 000ft. /500 ft. /day) _ $ 30 , 000
$ 37, 000
23
