Foothill Sanitary Landfill — Module 1 December 2003
County of San Joaquin Job No 031602 00 02
5.4 Geotextile
8 -oz. geotextile was used as a separation layer between the LCRS drain gravel and the
operations layer. In addition, geotextile was used in the LCRS trenches to encapsulate
the gravel fill and HDPE pipe and a double layer was placed within the sump area as a
cushion geotextile.
5.4.1 Receiving Inspection
Upon arrival by truck shipment, the unloading and storage of the geotextile rolls were
observed by Vector's CQA Monitors. Each roll of geotextile was logged in by roll
number and the roll numbers then cross-checked against the quality control documents
provided by the Contractor as a submittal. Following this inspection and approval, the
material was released to the Contractor for installation. A copy of the log of geotextile
received has been included in Appendix L. The manufacturer's QC data have also
been included within Appendix L.
5.4.2 Conformance Testing
Select samples of the geotextile were cut from random rolls of the geotextile at the
manufacturing plant by Precision for conformance testing in accordance with the project
specifications and CQA manual. Conformance testing for the geotextile component
included the following:
• mass per unit area (ASTM D-5261)
• grab tensile (ASTM D-4632)
• puncture strength (ASTM D-4787)
• permittivity (ASTM D4491)
• apparent opening size (ASTM D4751)
Eight (8) geotextile samples were tested for conformance. Based on approximately
1,500,000 ft2 of geotextile used, this testing frequency corresponds to one test per
187,500 ft2,, which satisfies the requirement of one test per 200,000 square feet (ft2).
Results of the conformance testing indicated that the materials met the requirements of
the project specifications. A summary of the geotextile conformance testing is shown in
Table 6. Detailed test results are provided within Appendix L.
Vector Engineering, Inc. • 143E Spring Hill Drive - Grass Valley, CA 95945 • (530) 272-2448
35
