C. The EARTHWORK and GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR shall cooperate
fully and coordinate activities with each other, refuse disposal workers, and
OWNER's staff to ensure adequate notification and suitable access to the landfill
operating area.
1.6 EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS
A. The CONTRACTOR is advised that the construction of this project will require
working in, on, and adjacent to refuse. Landfill gas (LFG) is generated from
decomposing refuse. This LFG normally consists of about 45 percent carbon
dioxide (CO2), 55 percent methane (CH4) and other gases, depending on the
composition of the refuse. Hydrogen sulfide (1-12S) or other toxic gases have been
occasionally encountered at landfills.
B. Active Waste Management Units at the Forward Landfill were permitted for the
disposal of"nonhazardous solid waste." Notwithstanding the above, the OWNER
cannot guarantee that toxic or hazardous materials or vapors will not be
encountered by the CONTRACTOR during the performance of this project.
1.7 TIME OF COMPLETION AND LIQUIDATED DAMAGES
A. The CONTRACTOR shall agree to pay liquidated damages as specified in the
Agreement Conditions.
B. The CONTRACTOR shall commence and complete Work under this Contract
within the time period stated in the Agreement.
1.8 CODES AND STANDARDS
A. All Work done and materials and equipment transported, handled, stored or
installed shall be done in strict conformance with the applicable orders, rules and
regulations of the State of California, Division of Industrial Safety, and with all
other State, County, City, or District requirements. Nothing contained in these
Specifications or shown or noted on the Construction Drawings shall be construed
to permit Work not conforming to these orders, rules and regulations.
B. When Construction Drawings or Specifications call for material or construction of
a better quality or larger size than may be required by applicable codes or
standards, the provisions of the Construction Drawings and/or Specifications shall
take precedence over the requirements of the code or standard. If there is any
other conflict between the Construction Drawings or Specifications and the
requirements of applicable codes and standards, the more stringent provisions
shall govern.
1.9 MANUFACTURERS' SPECIFICATIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS
A. Unless otherwise indicated or specified, all manufactured materials, products,
processes, equipment, or the like shall be installed or applied in accordance with
the manufacturers' instructions, directions, or Specifications. Said installation or
application shall be in accordance with printed instructions furnished by the
manufacturer of the material or equipment concerned for use under conditions
similar to those at the jobsite. Copies of such instructions shall be furnished to the
DESIGN ENGINEER and his acceptance thereof obtained before Work is begun.
Forward Landfill WMU FU-04
01100 3 SUMMARY
