2.5 CLAY PLUG MATERIAL A. A natural clayey material free from roots, organic matter, frozen material, debris, solid waste, rocks, or slag larger than 1 inch, and other deleterious materials. The clay plug material shall be obtained from an onsite borrow source. B. The Clay Plug material shall have a soil classification of clayey sand (SC), lean clay, sandy clay, or silty clay (CL), or fat clay or sandy clay (CH), using the Unified Soil Classification System and shall meet the following requirements: 1. Particle Size: Material having 100 percent by weight passing 1-inch sieve, 90 percent by weight passing U.S. No. 4 sieve and at least 60 percent by weight passing U.S. No. 200 sieve. The maximum in-place dry clod size shall be 1 inch. 2. Liquid Limit: 20 minimum to 60 maximum. 3. Plasticity Index: 10 to 40. 2.6 GRANULAR DRAINAGE MATERIAL A. Granular Drainage Material (GDM): Clean, washed, well-rounded, hard, durable sandy gravel free from foreign materials. Material shall have a maximum particle size of 3/8 inch and shall have less than 3 percent passing the No. 200 sieve. The minimum hydraulic conductivity to water shall be 0.1 cm/sec. B. GDM shall contain no limestone or other material that will adversely react with leachate. C. The GDM shall be provided by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR. 2.7 COARSE GRAVEL A. Clean, washed, well-rounded,hard, durable gravel free from dirt, clay clods,roots, and other foreign materials. Material shall conform to the following washed sieve gradation as determined by ASTM Cl 17 and C136: Sieve Size Percent Passing by Weight 111 100 1/2" 0-15 No. 4 0-5 No. 200 0-2 B. The minimum hydraulic conductivity to water shall be 1.0 cm/sec. C. Coarse Gravel Material placed directly on geotextile and around HDPE pipe shall contain no angular particles.
