B. Butt-Fusion Joining: Butt-fusion of pipes and fittings shall be performed in <br /> accordance with the pipe manufacturer's recommendations as to equipment and <br /> technique. Depending on site conditions, butt-fusion joining shall be performed <br /> in or outside of the excavation at the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's option. <br /> 3.6 PLACEMENT IN LEACHATE COLLECTION TRENCH <br /> A. General: Care shall be exercised when lowering pipe into the trench to prevent <br /> damage or twisting of the pipe. <br /> B. Pipe Base: Pipe and fittings shall be laid directly on Coarse Gravel in leachate <br /> collection trench as shown on Construction Drawings. The trench bottom shall be <br /> carefully shaped to conform to the shape of the pipe and fittings for the bottom <br /> one-quarter of the pipe. <br /> C. Coarse Gravel Backfill: Backfill material shall be as specified in Section 02300, <br /> EARTHWORK, and shall be placed in accordance with that Section and as shown <br /> on the Construction Drawings. <br /> 3.7 CONNECTION AND REMOVAL OF 3-INCH DIAMETER WMU ART-03 AND FU- <br /> 04 LEACHATE COLLECTION PIPES <br /> A. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall develop a leachate mangement plan <br /> with the OWNER, DESIGN ENGINEER, and QA/QC CONSULTANT to address <br /> the control and containment of leachate during connection and removal of LCRS <br /> pipes and trenches. <br /> B. Remove existing WMU ART-03 3-inch perforated leachate collection pipe at <br /> locations indicated on the Construction Drawings. Place end cap on the western <br /> end of the portion of the WMU ART-03 3-inch perforated leachate collection pipe <br /> that is to remain in-place. Wrap filter geotextile over coarse gravel at the western <br /> end of the portion of the WMU ART-03 LRS trench that is to remain in-place. <br /> C. Cut and place end cap on western WMU ART-03 solid 3-inch HDPE leachate <br /> header pipe at the top of the former Austin Road Landfill slope once the WMU <br /> ART-03 LCRS (i.e. granular drainage material layer) is connected to the WMU <br /> FU-03 LCRS (i.e. geocomposite drainage net). <br /> D. Remove eastern WMU ART-03 solid 3-inch HDPE leachate header pipe and clay <br /> plug at southern WMU ART-03 termination berm. <br /> E. Connect WMU ART-03 and WMU FU-04 3-inch perforated HDPE pipes using <br /> appropriate coupler. Extend filter geotextile and coarse gravel as necessary to <br /> connect LCRS trenches. Overlap filter geotextile a minimum 3-feet. <br /> F. As shown on the Construction Drawings, route 3-inch solid HDPE leachate <br /> header pipe from eastern end of WMU FU-04 (located on the top deck of the <br /> former Austin Road Landfill) to the base of the WMU FU-04 cell. The 3-inch <br /> solid HDPE leachate header pipe shall only be routed to the base of the WMU <br /> Forward Landfill WMU FU-04 <br /> 02535 4 LEACHATE PIPES <br />
