transported to either the Lovelace Material Recovery Facility & Transfer Station or
to the North County Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill, where it is combined
with similar materials collected at those sites, and shipped to an offsite vendor for
recycling/proper disposal. Depending on the quantities collected at Foothill Landfill
and at the other two sites, electronic waste may be transported directly to the off-
site vendor.
• Tires are segregated from the waste stream and stored onsite prior to shipping to
an offsite vendor for recycling/disposal.
White goods are diverted from the waste stream and stored onsite. The landfill
operator contracts with a vendor who comes onsite to remove the Freon and other
hazardous constituents from various appliances. Once all the hazardous
constituents are removed the white goods are shipped to an offsite recycling facility.
The protection of the health and safety of the general public at unloading areas is accomplished
with the use of signs for information and traffic control, use of attendants at all times that direct
the customers, operators keep an eye on customers, portable radios are used on-site for
0 communication.
C7
Foothill Sanitary Landfill Page 42 of 57 Public Works/Solid Waste
Joint Technical Document County of San Joaquin Revised 7/30/10
