be applied to extinguish the burning waste, and soil compacted over the area to
exclude oxygen.
• Linden Peters Fire Department may be called to extinguish large fires.
• The affected area will be checked after 24hours for indication of burning. If there
is evidence of smoldering fires, then water will again be applied over the burnt
area and more soil will be placed.
7.2.1.1 Grass Fire Control:
• Small grass fires at the site if they occur are extinguished using the water
truck.
• Linden Peters Fire Department is notified regarding large fires beyond the
control of site personnel.
7.3. Water Infiltration Control
The landfill operator uses daily cover and berms near the active area to divert storm water away
from the active area so that it does not come into contact with the waste; thereby reducing the
generation of leachate.
7.4. Dust Control
Dust from site operations is controlled by watering haul roads, including applying a spray on soil
cover work areas when conditions might create excessive dust and planting vegetation on
intermediate soil cover and planting and maintaining vegetation on completed fill areas.
Watering is accomplished with the use of water trucks with sprinklers on the front and back.
Frequency of water application is dependent upon the season and site conditions. The most
frequent application will occur during the summer in windy conditions. The performance
standard of "controlling visible dust" dictates the frequency of water application.
On-site water trucks are used for dust control. The trucks are filled using an overhead fill at the
site's water well or from the water pond landfill property.
0
Foothill Sanitary Landfill Page 44 of 57 Public Works/Solid Waste
Joint Technical Document County of San Joaquin — Revised 7/30/10
