3.02 EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS <br /> A. Contractor shall examine the areas and conditions under which work of this <br /> section will be performed. Contractor shall notify the Engineers if site conditions <br /> are not in accordance with the scope of work or the well specifications. <br /> B. The Contractor shall protect any existing survey monuments, groundwater wells, <br /> bollards and other monitoring wells in or near the work area. Any existing items <br /> damaged by the Contractor shall be repaired or replaced by the Contractor to its <br /> original or better condition. <br /> 3.03 DRILLING <br /> A. Drilling does not require EHD inspection. <br /> B. The Contractor shall drill at the location staked by the Engineer. Contractor shall <br /> verify drilling location with the Engineer before drilling. <br /> C. The Contractor shall decontaminate the drilling rig and drilling equipment before <br /> drilling. <br /> 1. Decontamination <br /> a. Decontamination shall be in accordance with ASTM D 5088 and ASTM <br /> D 5608. The drill rods, drill bits, augers, temporary casing, well developing <br /> equipment, tremie pipes, grout pumping lines, and other associated <br /> equipment shall be cleaned with high-pressure hot water/steam prior to <br /> drilling. Weighted measuring tapes used in previous projects shall also be <br /> decontaminated. <br /> b. Decontamination shall be performed either at a central decontamination <br /> station or an area that is remote from, and cross- or down-gradient from, the <br /> well being drilled. <br /> 2. If drilling equipment is found unclean by the Engineer, then the Contractor <br /> shall clean the equipment at the site without charging drill rig down time. <br /> D. Contractor shall clear the boring location of all brush and minor obstructions. <br /> E. Drilling shall be in the presence of the Engineer. <br /> F. The Contractor shall provide soil samples as determined by the Engineer for <br /> each drilling method. The Engineer will log the drilling at every 5-foot intervals <br /> based on the characterization of these samples. <br /> G.
