DAILY FIELD REPORT Page 1 of 1
Project Name: Foothill Sanitary Landfill - Area 2A Report Number: 075
Project Number: 14-101-01 Date: Monday 08/24/15
Owner: Dept. of Public Works, San Joaquin County CQA Monitors: R. Nogales
Contractor: R I Gordon Construction, Inc. M. Hu and
Weather: Clear - Hot Wind: 0-10 mph.
Tem erature: Approx. range 60- 92 F Other:
The contractor worked from 5:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Operations Layer Processing: Contractor continued screening of operations stockpile today at 6:00 am. (1) Hitachi 300
excavator, (1) CAT D6 dozer (1) 950 M Loader was used to perform screening operations. The Hitachi 300 was used to load
soil from the Middle of Stockpile 2 into the Power Screen screening plant. Screened product was stockpiled in a cone using a
belt stacker to keep the screened soil separate from unprocessed soil. (1) 950 M Loader was used relocate +1" from under the
belt into separate stockpile. (1) Sample collected from today's stacker belt stockpile. Full gradation was performed in field
lab. Lab results indicated 100 % Passing 1" Screen. Screening operation ended at 4:00 pm.
Operations Layer Placement: (1) Hyundai 300 loaded (1) Cat 745 Dump Truck with Screened Operations Layer for
placement on cell floor. (1) D6 LGP Dozer was used to spread Operations layer 2 ft thick over deployed 8 oz/sy geotextile
along middle of cell working to the north and west. Random samples of Operations layer were hand sieved in field with 1"
screen during placement. Observed 100% passing 1" screen. Contractor hand excavated through Operations layer to expose
8 oz/sy geotextile. Survey crew was on site to perform point over point survey.
Gravel Drainage Material Placement: 19-20 various types of end -dumps were used to import Gravel Drainage Material
(GDM) from the Cemex Rock Plant until 4:00 pm. 7 loads of GDM rejected by Contractor and sent back to Cemex due to
oversized gravel and excessive fines content based on visual observations. Observed trucks operating on at least 3 ft of GDM
overlying the Geomembrane. (1) CAT D6 LGP dozer equipped with GPS spread GDM in the northeast corner of cell floor this
morning beginning at 5:00 am. (1) Laborer controlled wrinkles. GDM placement discontinued at approximately 1:30 pm due
to moderate to heavy wrinkles observed in HDPE Liner. GDM import continued, with material stockpiled onto previously
deployed GDM. Stockpiling was supported by the Cat D6 LGP Dozer. AES QA personnel monitored the placement and verified
the depths of the placed LCRS gravel by using a dulled probe. (1) GDM sample was collected at 9:30 am. Field gradation
indicated the GDM met the specifications.
GDM Gravel Summary - 8/24/15 -1100 tons
Total Tonnage - 11,084 tons
Geotextile: Great Basin deployed and sewed 8 oz/sy geotextile along northeastern portion of the cell. (7) Laborers were used
to hand roll Geotextile into place. Observed seams sewn using hand sewing machine.
Geocomposite: Geocomposite deployed on southern end of the eastern slope progressing northward. Observed nylon ties
secured at 3 foot intervals along length and 6 -inch intervals along width. Geotextile seams were sewn using hand sewing
machine. Installation resulted in horizontal seams on the slope. The Engineer was contacted to verify horizontal seams are
acceptable and requirements for location and staggering seams on adjacent panel.
Leachate Collection Pipe: Contractor continued placement Middle Leachate Collection Pipe. Approximately 75 if of 6"
perforated HDPE pipe was placed today. (1) John Deere 410 Backhoe operating over completed operations layer soil was
used to place coarse gravel over 6" Perforated HDPE Pipe. Coarse gravel and 6" HDPE pipe was wrapped in 8 oz/sy Geotextile.
Gravel was measured to be a minimum 1 ft deep and a minimum 4 ft wide. Geotextile was measured to have a 2 ft minimum
overlap.
24" HDPE Riser Pipe: No activity observed today.
Equipment Onsite: (1) CAT D6T LGP dozer, (2) water trucks, (1) Hitachi 300 excavator, (1) CAT TH160B folk lift, (1) John
Deere 410 Backhoe. (1) CAT 623 paddlewheel scraper. (1) Power Screen, (1) Belt Stacker, (1) Hyundai 480LC excavator, (1)
CAT D6T dozer, (2) Cat 745 Dump Truck, (1) Cat 950 M Loader (1) CAT D4 Dozer
Problems/Resolutions.
Visitors: M.
