Nogales
Contractor: R I Gordon Construction, Inc. M. Hu and
Weather: Clear - Hot Wind: 0-10 mph.
Temperature: Approx. range 61- 96 F Other:
The contractor worked from 4:00 am to 5:30 pm.
Operations Layer Processing: No Screening observed today. (1) Cat 950 M Loader used part time to relocate +1" waste pile.
Operations Layer Placement: (1) Hyundai 300 loaded (2) Cat 745 Dump Truck with Screened Operations Layer for
placement on cell floor. (1) D6 LGP Dozer was used to spread Operations layer 2 ft thick over deployed 8 oz/sy geotextile
along middle of cell working to the north and west. (1) Sample collected from cell floor. Full gradation was performed in field
lab. Lab results indicated 100% Passing 1" Screen.
Gravel Drainage Material Placement: 20-23 various types of end -dumps were used to import Gravel Drainage Material
(GDM) from the Cemex Rock Plant until 3:30 pm. Observed trucks operating on at least 3 ft of GDM overlying the
Geomembrane. (1) CAT D6 LGP dozer equipped with GPS spread GDM in the center of cell floor pushing west this morning
beginning at 4:00 am. (1) Laborer controlled wrinkles. GDM placement discontinued at approximately 12:30 pm due to
moderate to heavy wrinkles observed in HDPE Liner. GDM import continued, with material stockpiled onto previously
deployed GDM between Southern Leachate Collection Pipe and Middle Leachate Collection Pipe. Stockpiling was supported
by the Cat D6 LGP Dozer and Cat D4 Dozer. AES QA personnel monitored the placement and verified the depths of the placed
LCRS gravel by using a dulled probe.
Geotextile: Great Basin deployed and sewed 8 oz/sy geotextile over GDM along middle portion of the cell. 8 oz /sy geotextile
was deployed at toe of slope under the Eastern Leachate Collection Pipe. (7) Laborers were used to hand roll Geotextile into
place. Observed seams sewn using hand sewing machine. 8 oz/sy geotextile was also deployed in a portion of the sump above
the Coarse Gravel.
Geocomposite: Geotextile seams on geocomposite deployed on 8/31/15 were hand sewn. No additional panels deployed
today.
Leachate Collection Pipe: Contractor installed portions of Middle Leachate Collection Pipe. Approximately 200 If of 6"
perforated HDPE pipe was placed today. (1) John Deere 410 Backhoe and (1) Cat 950 M Loader operating over completed
operations layer soil was used to place coarse gravel over 6" Perforated HDPE Pipe. Coarse gravel and 6" HDPE pipe was
wrapped in 8 oz/sy Geotextile. Gravel was measured to be a minimum 1 ft deep and a minimum 4 ft wide. Geotextile was
measured to have a 2 ft minimum overlap.
24" HDPE Riser Pipes and Sump: (1) Hitachi 300 excavator, (1) CAT D4 Dozer, and (3) Laborers were used to adjust the (2)
primary HDPE Riser pipes. Observed 24" riser pipes adjusted such that the perforated section were flush with the floor of the
sump. Some loads of coarse Gravel were placed in the western portion of the sump and covered with 8 oz/sy Geotextile.
Liner Repairs: AES monitors observed (2) repairs made by Great Basin today. One repair measured approximately 9 ft x 11
ft on panel #76, which was damaged by the dozer while pushing rock. GCL roll 2268 and HDPE liner from roll #1818 were
used to make the repair. A second repair was made along the alignment of the southern LCRS burrito to correct a wrinkle
near the flow line. The wrinkle was cut and capped with a patch of approximately 2 ft x 40 ft. A trial weld was made prior to
welding and the seams were vacuum tested prior to resuming LCRS placement activities over the area.
Equipment Onsite: (1) CAT D6T LGP dozer, (2) water trucks, (1) Hitachi 300 excavator, (1) CAT TH160B folk lift, (1) John
Deere 410 Backhoe. (1) CAT 623 paddlewheel scraper. (1) Power Screen, (1) Belt Stacker, (1) Hyundai 48OLC excavator, (1)
CAT D6T dozer, (2) Cat 745 Dump Truck, (1) Cat 950 M Loader (1) CAT D4 Dozer
Problems/Resolutions.
Visitors: M.
