The interface
strength testing was performed by SGI Testing Services, LLC (SGI) of Norcross, Georgia in
accordance with the test procedures specified in Section 02800 of the contract specifications
titled "Interface Shear Strength Requirements."
1.0 Liner System Configurations
The liner system in Area 2A of the Foothill Sanitary Landfill differs between the sideslope and
base of the landfill. The components of the sideslope and base liner systems are shown below
from top to bottom and illustrated in Figure 1:
Sideslope Liner System
Double -Sided Drainage Geocomposite (GC)
Textured 60 mil Geomembrane (GM)
Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL)
Sideslope Subgrade Soil (SSS)
Base Liner System
Leachate Collection Gravel
Textured 60 mil Geomembrane (GM)
Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL)
Foundation Layer Soil (FLS)
The contract specifications require single interface strength tests on the following interfaces to
characterize the interface strengths in the sideslope and base liner systems:
Interface Test Series
A
B` „
C
D
Interface Tested
GM/GCL
GCL/FLS
GCL/SSS
GM/GC
