As-Built CQA Report for the Construction of Area 2A at the Foothill Sanitary Landfill
San Joaquin County,California
• 6.4.3 8-oz Geotextile Conformance Testing
The 8-oz filter geotextile used above the GDM (as separation layer between GDM and operations
layer soil) was Mirafi S800 nonwoven geotextile, manufactured by Tencate Mirafi of Pendergrass,
Georgia. Conformance samples were collected based on a test frequency of one sample per
100,000 sf or one sample per lot, whichever gave a greater number of tests. Approximately
670,500 sf of 8-oz geotextile were delivered to the site in 149 rolls, each 15 feet wide and 300 feet
long. These rolls included 15 additional rolls that was brought in due to material shortage.
Conformance Samples for the additional rolls were sampled at the site by AES.A total of 11 samples
of 8-oz geotextile were collected for conformance testing. Conformance test results for 8-oz
geotextile are summarized below and are listed in Table 9. The laboratory data sheets are included
in Appendix G.3.All of the test results for the 8-oz geotextile were in conformance with the Project
Specifications.
8-oz Geotextile Conformance Testing Summary
ASTM Actual
Parameter Test Method Unit SpecificationAverage
Mass per Unit Area D5261 oz/sy >8 8.2-8.6 8.4
Grab Tensile Strength D4632 lbs 220 237-274 MD 253 MD
243-266 TD 255 TD
• Apparent Elongation D4632 % - 73-86 MD 79 MD
82-108 TD 98 TD
Static Puncture D6241 lbs 500 609-795 712
Trapezoid Tear Strength D4533 lbs 80 111-121 MD 116 MD
124-149 TD 136 TD
Permittivi D4491 sec 1 1.0 1.69-2.30 2.02
Flow Rate D4491 m sf - 127-172 151
Apparent Opening Size D4751 mm 5 0.21 0.190-0.209 0.198
MD-Machine direction;TD-Transverse Direction
6.4.4 Drainage Geocomposite Conformance Testing
Drainage geocomposite material used was Fabrinet TRX and was manufactured by GSE at
Kingstree, South Carolina. It consisted of a 300-mil geonet heat boded to 8-oz non-woven geotextile
on both sides. A total of 184,500 sq. ft of drainage geocomposite was delivered to the site in 82
rolls, each 15 feet wide and 150 feet long. Two conformance test samples were collected by
Precision at the manufacturing plant. The test results are summarized below and are listed in Table
10.
