As-Built CQA Report for the Construction of Area 2A at the Foothill Sanitary Landfill
San Joaquin County,California
• the Contractor, and one 12" x 12" sample for archive. The contractor tested five samples for peel
and five samples for shear.
Laboratory samples were tested by Precision. From each of the destructive samples, five coupons
for peel and five coupons for shear were tested in accordance with ASTM D6392. AES reviewed the
test results including the Locus-of-Break codes (FTB or non-FTB) in accordance with the Project
Specifications. For the dual-track hot-wedge seaming method, both sides of the test specimens
were tested for peel adhesion. The minimum required seam strength in shear and peel is as
specified in the previous table. All of the test results met the Project Specifications. The laboratory
samples for DS-4 and DS-12 had insufficient flap for the grips. All field samples for peel and shear
from each of these test locations passed. The results of destructive seam tests are included in
Appendix L and a summary is presented in Table 11.
Liner Termination
The Area 2A liner was tied-in to Area 1 on the north, anchored in trench on the east or terminated
in berms on the south and west sides as per details shown on the Construction Plans.Slope areas on
the south and west side were terminated in anchor trenches as well. The anchor trenches were 2
feet wide by 2 feet deep, and backfilled with earth fill. The termination berm on the floor area of the
west side was 5 feet high and 15 feet wide at the top and had 2H:1V slopes. The side slope
• termination berm on the west side of the north slope was not constructed. Instead, the sacrificial
geomembrane layer was extended approximately 5 feet beyond the anchor trench and secured
using sand bags. The termination berm on the floor area of the south side was 4 feet high and 15
feet wide at the top and had 2HAV slopes. The side slope termination berm on the south side was
1 foot high and 2 feet wide at the top and had 2HAV slopes. Protective plywood panels,4 feet wide,
were placed over all the interim terminations as per the Construction Drawings.
6.5.4 8-oz Geotextile
The 8-oz geotextile filter/separation layer was installed above the 9-inch GDM on the Area 2A floor
area. The installation took place between August 7, 2015 and September 15, 2015. The 8-oz geotextile
panels were joined together by mating the edges of the geotextile panels, and sewing together with
continuous stitches located a minimum of 3 inches from the mated edges. AES monitored the
installation of 8-oz geotextiles to verify that the installation methods were in compliance with the
Project Specifications. The deployment log is included in Appendix H.3. The 8-oz geotextile was also
used in soil gas trenches and leachate collection trenches as shown in the deployment logs.
6.5.5 Drainage Geocomposite
GBE installed the drainage geocomposite in the sump area (secondary liner) on August 3 and 4, 2015.
The installation on the side slopes occurred between August 24, 2005 and September 4, 2005. The
• geocomposite rolls were transported to the cell side slopes on a stinger attached to a forklift and were
PA14 Projects114-101(SJCDPW North County and Foothillffoothill CQA1Report\Final ReportlFoothill CQA Rport-Final.docx
28
